Since compiling my Top 100 Games 2 years ago, a number of things have happened: first, and most significantly, I have played more games, some of which have impressed me enough to warrant inclusion on my list. Second, my website (in particular the top 100 games section), was subject to much criticism and ridicule on the web forums of UK-based magazine, PC Gamer, a section of which was then published in the magazine itself in their "Best of the Forums" section! The focus of much of this criticism was targeted on the web design itself, and, of course, they were right, the first version of Parvini's World was absolutely hideous. I hope that the stripped down functionality of my v2.0 design eradicates these concerns. There were also, of course, attacks on my choice of games, especially in light of the fact that I'd made the grandiose claim that my Top 100 is better than PC Gamer's own annual list. Anyway, in light of these two things, I took a long hard look at my gaming-self (in my gaming-mirror?) and came to conclusion that my Top 100 was in need of a major overhaul. I found myself disagreeing with the positioning of games and accusing myself of both excessive nostalgia and of pretension (i.e. choosing games with critical acclaim or large reputations over lesser known games). To combat these tendencies I have ruthlessly shorn my list of 50 games! I still enjoy the games that I've banished but I now see their position in the original list as "filler" between the more essential titles. I am hoping this streamlined approach will more accurately reflect my true gaming tastes and perhaps even find at least some approval with the PC Gamer faithful (or what remain of them), especially in light of the fact that PC Gamer relegated the Baldur's Gate games out of their top 5 down to 23 and then placed the soul-sappingly dull Oblivion at number 1(!), a move which has prompted me to cancel my subscription. You'll find Baldur's Gate is still placed very highly on my list.
